Week 18 Have Courage to listen to Him

Hey everyone!

Wednesday I shadowed and I had people ask me for help. I was nervous to help but I figured it out and it was weirdly pretty easy.

Thursday we went to the Ogden temple. The Spirit was very strong.

Friday when shadowing a staff asked me if I know a basic question. I was able to answer and he was surprised I knew from him teaching few weeks ago. I saw one of my favorite scriptures at least 3 times. Joshua 1:9, I challenge you all to read it (Have Courage). I also helped the elders with a Photoshop card since I'm experienced with Photoshop and an older guy with a Microfilm scanner. He showed me stuff with the scanner and I helped him with the computer.

Saturday my brother got baptized. When he got done he said he felt a change so that was cool to hear. Also met with the sisters in the evening. I love them! I'm thankful for their insights and inspiring spirits! If you ever have the chance to feed the missionaries or serve them, Do It!

Sunday the spirit got strong during testimony meeting. I'm thankful for the sacrament and the meaning of it. To remember Christ and take upon His name. I know the Book of Mormon will bring you closer to Him. I know He is aware of us. He is there not to necessarily remove trials, but to help us with them when we can't bare them alone. He loves each of us more then we know/can imagine! You are each important to Him.

As you focus on others you forget yourself and I'm thankful for that. This past week I kept getting a feeling to do something specific, as I listened I felt like I was where I was supposed to be. The Holy Ghost is there for a reason!!! We now have 20 service missionaries!! & a scripture: All souls are great in the sight of God -D&C 18:10.

You are all amazing! and I hope your doing well.

Week 17 When in Doubt look for the Good

Hey all!

This week is kind of half day assignments.

Wednesday my Grandpa Gill showed me a few records and stories. It was nice to be able to put a few small stories with names and birthdays on family search.

Thursday I went to the Brigham temple and did a session for my first time. It's cool to see the similarities and differences between temples.

Friday we went to the temple with my little brother for his first time (baptisms). It was fun to go with a beginner.
Sunday the speakers were youth who went on trek. One of the youth said even though there was a lot of things that happened negatively, they tried to find the good in everything. Even though life is hard, there is good if you look for it.
Monday the food pantry went well.

Just want to add I'm thankful for my friends and family. As I've been around missionaries and uplifting people I've felt the Spirit stronger in the areas I struggle. He really does love us and is cheering us on every day.

Quick scripture 2nd Ne. 21:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.

Hope your all doing well!

Week 16 Worship is Personal

Hi again!

Wednesday I pushed myself and instead of waiting until later I listened and shadowed most of the day. Thankful I listened to the still small voice.

Thursday in the temple this thought/reminder came to me. The temple isn't about going in knowing and being educated perfectly on everything church related, but a testimony is needed. It's about going in and learning. It's a personal thing. I also love the temple because of the calmness it brings.

Friday I wasn't able to help people but I still talked with them a little.

Saturday volunteering went well. Met with the sisters in the evening.

Sunday we had our mission meeting, it was good to get to know everyone a little better.

Monday we found little spiderwebs in the grape vines so Sister Andrus agreed to go through those and I did the apples. Sister Andrus was trying to find the spiders in them and found a few but was nice about it luckily. So that was okay.

Quote for the week:

"Do not be disappointed if you have read and reread and yet have not received a powerful witness. You may be somewhat like the disciples spoken of in the Book of Mormon who were filled with the power of God in great glory “and they knew it not” (3 Ne. 9:20).

Do the best you can. Think of this verse: “See that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order” "
-Boy'd K Packer

Hope you all have a good week!

Week 15 Holiness To The Lord

Hello,
Wednesday I attempted to help a mom and daughter with family search. Sister Yonk also stopped in and said hi, it was good to see her.
Thursday I went with a friend to initiatory. She recently got back from her mission in TN. Thankful she motivated me to go.

Friday evening I had the chance to go to the temple with both my grandmas, so that was special. I know our Father in heaven loves us because I felt that love and peace. He has prepared a way for us all to return back to Him. I'm thankful for the atonement and the times we have to start over and be better.
Saturday morning Ashlee and I went to the temple. Then volunteering was good. One of the sister workers last day is next Saturday. I'll miss her. I met with the sisters in the evening. Thankful for their help! When leaving the Elders tried to jump out and scare the sisters. Of course I was in the front but luckily only flinched a little so they didn't notice.
Sunday one of the librarians went over family search with me. I got a little help and a reminder to start small and work big. Thankful she told me not to go out that much as a sort of beginner. We need to remember it's the small and simple things that lead to the biggest sometimes.
Monday I sorted cans again. It's nice to have another sister to do that with.

Here's a scripture for the week: 2nd Ne. 4:20 My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep. 21 He hath filled me with his love......23 Behold, he hath heard my cry by day, and he hath given me knowledge by visions in the night-time. 24 And by day have I waxed bold in mighty prayer before him; yea, my voice have I sent up on high; and angels came down and ministered unto me.

Hope you all have a good week! If you want to please "respond Jessica", I'd love to hear from you!

(I couldn't decide on a title for the email, I've been to the temple 4 times this week so I decided on part of its plaque.)

Week 14 Independence Week

Hello again!

Happy Independence Day! Not a ton happened so I'll share a few things along with a scripture.

Friday I went to the temple with my grandma Gill and it was a really good session. I love the temple!
Monday I cleaned off and sorted eggs with Sister Andrus. That was fun.

This week I liked 2nd Ne. 2:11 For it must be, that there is an opposition in all things... having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness or misery, sense or in sensibility. 13 ...ye shall also say there is no sin. If no sin, ye shall say there is no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not there, there is no God. If no God, neither the earth. Then no creation. Neither to act nor to be acted upon....14...for there is a God, and he hath created all things.
I'm thankful for the knowledge that we are created in His image, and that He created everything so we may know good from bad and so that we may have JOY!

Hope your all doing well! If you want, I'd love to hear from you. If you respond here please "Respond Jessica". Thanks for taking time to read!

Week 13 Inspiration comes in quiet places

Hi,
Wednesday Bro. Erickson helped me with my tree. I went into a lady I found last week and after 2.5 hours we finally found her parents. I helped a guy with the basics and shadowed a sister missionary & staff. :) It was fun to see them excited when they saw relatives in front of them and tell us about them.
Thursday the session was very small. I'm getting close to remembering most so that's exciting. Thankful my gma g attended with me.
Friday staff invited me to do things and I tried to do things on my own. Loved the talk "A still, small voice and a throbbing heart", 2005. It's a new favorite. I feel very inadequate with research. When listening to the talk I got an impression that part of the history center is not the work fully, but being a friend to some and listening to them. I also heard some say they love "I stand all amazed" which has been a favorite for the last few years. One thing I have been struggling with is when someone asks for help I doubt and don't believe I can. But 95% of the time it IS something I can do. I just need to have faith in myself and Him and know that if it needs happen, it will! Some people are terrifying to me, but I'm thankful that I'm being pushed to work with people a little more. I did a few things I struggled with at first and I didn't want to but I told them what I struggled with and they helped me. I did better than last time.
Saturday went good volunteering. I met the laundry head person. She's been out of town on vacation. I have been trying to be more outgoing but I don't think it's working. When meeting with the sisters they decided to start it out by singing child hymn #172, when listening I got an impression that since proselytizing missionaries get to contact home now weekly, because of that they don't send out as many letters. I felt that's one of the reasons I got called as a service missionary is because I'm already living at home so there are people I know (I have no idea who) but there are some that need those weekly letters. So that helped me a lot!
In sacrament they talked about how we feel we don't do as good as we should be and how we fall short. The end of this week has been really hard (not sure why) and feel like I'm a failure if it wasn't for the people telling me to help them. But that's where Christ comes in. He knows what we need, and will have those needs met. I wouldn't have done as nearly much as I did if they didn't push me to do the things I did. I'm thankful and trying to remember "don't beat yourself up". I also taught primary. For it just being me pretty much, it was one of my best lessons for how I do. I know Christ is helping me because of all the help I get.
Monday we sorted meats and I got put by myself. 1.5 hrs later a group came and they put 2 girls with me, Lucy (8) and Katherine (10). Thankful for their help. It went better then the last few weeks.

Also, I tried to get a conference talk picture to finish but hasn't yet so I'll try to send it later today. :)

Week 12 Finding Joy in the Little Things

Hi everyone! Another longer email, hope that's okay.
Tuesday evening we had our mission meeting. Two members from the area of 70 came and talked. A few notes I took were:
•He blesses us with faith and courage. -Elder Michael J Hess

The second started by asking my mission leaders to share their testimony. When they stood up and shared, I got a very small, quiet confirmation that they are called by Him to be my leaders.
"When you gain a calling, you feel a little portion of His love for those you are serving." -Sister C.
"We are all equal." -Elder C.
•The Spirit is there for a reason.

Wednesday morning was okay. I went up to the tabernacle and found out one of my favorite youtubers family is performing so I went to that.
Thursday at institute we had a sub, he noticed that I'm a lefty and so that was exciting since we both are. Haha. In the lesson I loved "He's going to mess with our lives, we need to have faith in Him to not mad at Him for it." Later after initiatory I went and did service for an elderly couple in my ward. I have been doing that since I submitted my papers to Salt Lake usually on Tuesdays. :)
Friday I went through my tree with Sister Clark. She helped me a lot, we found a huge extended family so that was exciting. She said you only find them when they are ready and want you to! Thankful for her help (and those on the other side)! Also if you remember a few weeks ago, all the BofM's on the table, if you know of someone that could use one, I can send get it to you. Might help someone since it's different languages. Felt like I needed to let you all know.
Saturday was good volunteering. I found another lefty!! Her name is Jennifer. I helped her for the last about 45 minutes with ironing.
Sunday evening when finishing things up with the sisters. We talked to a guy and he said "You sisters are awesome" then turned to me "and your short!" We also almost hit a goose heading to Tremonton w/ family. So that was exciting. (Also my brother got ordained a Deacon. Proud of him!)
Monday at the food pantry we sorted fruits and vegetables. Then we boxed a whole thing of runners meals. Everything smelled really good and looked disgusting, ha. But it was fun.
I just want to finish by saying I am thankful for the my Savior, Jesus Christ. For His atoning sacrifice. I'm thankful for my Heavenly Father and His awareness for All His missionaries. I'm thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost and the guidance and help received.

Hope you all had a good week!
